Now that everything is officially official as of this morning, I would like to share my big news ---
Are you ready?
Ready?
Do you remember the manuscript that I worked on from August 2006 to February 2008? The one I queried agents with for most of 2008? The one I finally landed an agent with January 2009? The one that went on submissions in April 2009?
Pulse (Simon & Schuster) is going to make that story -- currently titled SCRATCHING AT THE 8-BALL -- into a REAL BOOK that will be sold at REAL STORES, and REAL PEOPLE will have the opportunity to purchase and read it!
For real!
It's been a pretty crazy week. My agent notified me of the offer a week ago today, but I wanted to wait to say anything publically until I knew what was going to happen. In the meantime, at my quarterly company meeting last Tuesday, I had to go up in front of 100+ coworkers while my supervisor made a speech about my five years with the company... and mentioned my book offer! On Wednesday, my amazing and wonderful husband took me out for a fondue dinner (and dessert!) in celebration! On Saturday, I showed up at a restaurant for what I thought was going to be lunch with a friend, but which turned out to be a big surprise party organized by my sister with the whole room full of family and friends!
Wow. I mean, wow.
To make things even cooler, my editor is Liesa Abrams, an executive editor at Aladdin who acquired this book for Pulse! She was the first industry professional to connect with my protagonist, Seth (back in summer 2007), and she has encouraged me with this project through the exhilarating/harrowing revising and agent-hunting processes. I'd never imagined it would even be a possibility that we'd be able to work together in an official capacity, and I am beyond thrilled to have this opportunity! I heart Liesa so much, and I know Seth's story is in the very best hands possible.
I am also so grateful for my agent, Jim McCarthy, for taking a chance on me and Seth. To have somone who gets my work and who is such a strong advocate has made all the difference for me. It's been completely life changing, really. Jim worked diligently on my behalf for this quicker-than-I-could-have-hoped-for sale, and I am thankful to have him as my agent.
Special thanks to LiveJournal peeps
for referring me to her agent, and to for all the help with my queries and bio!
And thank you to all of you who have supported me with my writing over the years! It has meant more than you can ever know.
